Motor Fuels Saw Price Jumps At The Pump But Two Of Three Home Heating Fuels Dropped

Motor fuel prices went up at the pump again this past week, while two of three heating fuels saw a drop in prices. According to AAA Iowa, as of Wednesday, March 10, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.79 across the state, which is up $.05 from last week and $.59 higher than last year. The national average is at $2.82, up $.08 cents from last week. Retail diesel prices jumped $.11 in Iowa to an average of $3.06. This is $.03 higher than the national average. Wholesale ethanol went up only by a penny and is currently priced at $1.79 per gallon. Two home heating fuels saw a sizeable decrease in prices. Propane fell $.23 with a statewide average of $1.76 per gallon while natural gas prices went down by $.16 to $2.67 per MMbtu. Home heating oil, on the other hand, went up $.09 from last week, ending with an average of $2.63 per gallon.
