A Carroll man charged in Carroll County District Court with felony drug possession filed a not guilty plea last week. Court records show 56-year-old Michael O’Hara Sherrod submitted his written plea Wednesday to a single count of third-offense possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine, a class D felony with habitual offender enhancements. Sherrod was arrested by the Carroll Police Department on Dec. 5, 2020 after authorities located a camera-shaped pill in his possession during a traffic stop. An order filed Thursday set Sherrod’s trial to begin on Tuesday, June 1 with a pretrial conference on Thursday, April 22. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
