Carroll County Public Health has announced they will be holding a mass vaccination clinic next week for residents of Carroll County. Public Health Nurse, Sara Schulte, says the county has been allocated 1,170 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for the event.
People, however, should not just show up at the Westgate Mall next Thursday. Schulte says appointments must be made with them in advance.
Those who do not have access to the internet or who are having trouble navigating the site can call 712-794-5835 or your primary care provider’s clinic and they will help with getting an appointment scheduled. Schulte stresses that this clinic is not open to just anyone, they are still working through phase 1A, 1B and those with underlying health conditions.
This also includes individuals with disabilities living in home settings and their direct care staff, government officials and their staff, health, life and safety inspectors, correctional facility workers and inmates and those 16 and older who have any health conditions. The vaccination link will go live online at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, March 26). Schulte says they believe it may take a few days for all the appointments to be filled.
Although the vaccine is free of charge, there is an administration fee that generally runs around $40, so those setting up appointments will need to provide an insurance,Medicare or Medicaid card for that fee. Schulte says that even with the nearly 1,200 doses, phase 1B is a very large group in the county and it is not likely we will be done with administering vaccines to all members of that group yet. Schulte says it is going to take some patience on everyone’s part to get moved into the next phase of vaccinations for the general population.
Volunteers will be needed to assist with people traffic and COVID safety measures will be followed. Masks will be required for all. The full interview with Schulte and links to the website for appointment information as well as to volunteer can be found below.
