Denison Middle School Student To Have Original Book Published

A Denison middle school student and a fifth grader from Kingsley Pierson have received awards for their original stories about agriculture. The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation hosted the Bushel of Stories contest for students in grades three through eight. Eighty-five entries were received and judged, with the winners awarded cash prizes, plaques and certificates and they will have their works published. Deanna Anderson, a student at the Denison Middle School, received top honors in the sixth- through eighth-grade category for her book, “ABC Agriculture.” The book helps readers understand the diversity and variety of agriculture with new words and definitions of each letter of the alphabet. Enley Ploeger, was named the winner in the elementary division for her story of a piglet born with a unique disease in “Hiccup the Wonder Pig.” It is through the care of the farmer and her family that the piglet grows up to be healthy. “This was the first year of the contest and it was a huge success,” says Executive Director of the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation, Will Fett. “We hope that this not only helps inspire young authors, but also helps provide more accurate agriculture books to bookshelves everywhere.”
