A Lake City man was arrested earlier this week on a drug trafficking charge after test results on items seized in February returned positive for methamphetamine. Thirty-two-year-old Nicholas Russell Pickering is accused of a controlled substance violation, a class C felony. The Carroll Police Department was called to a residence in the 800 block of North Court Street on Feb. 17, and Pickering, who was at the location, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, unused plastic baggies and a scale. A separate drug trafficking charge against Pickering is currently pending in Carroll County District Court: possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class C felony. This case is scheduled for trial on Tuesday, April 27 and stems from a November 2020 traffic stop in which authorities located multiple baggies of methamphetamine on his person along with drug-related equipment. Each class C felony carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
