Sac City Man Accused Of Felony Drug Possession Scheduled For Trial In June

A Sac City man charged with felony drug possession in Carroll County District Court has been scheduled for trial at the beginning of June. Court records show 54-year-old Vernon George Cady has submitted a not guilty plea to third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine, a class D felony. The charge stems from a Nov. 28, 2020 traffic stop in the 500 block of E. 18th Street for operating a motor vehicle while his license was revoked. Cady was taken into custody and transported to the Carroll County jail. During the booking process, authorities located two baggies containing substances believed to be methamphetamine. Test results from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) laboratory confirmed the materials were narcotics. Cady’s jury trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 1 with a pretrial conference on May 13. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
