Carroll Boys Soccer Opens Season with Impressive Win Over Atlantic on Friday

Boys Soccer Results Friday, April 2nd

Atlantic At Carroll

Carroll 3

Atlantic 1

It was an impressive season opener for Carroll, controlling the ball most of the match and scoring 3 goals in the 2nd half to start the season 1-0. The match was scoreless at half though Carroll had several chances to get on the board. The Tigers had the ball on their offensive end most of the half and had near goals from Kelin Jones and a Emmanual Jioklow who just missed a header before the halftime buzzer.  Carroll did a nice job using the strong south wind to control the first half limiting the action for goalie Treyton Goins.

Atlantic took advantage of the wind to start the 2nd half but Goins and the defense was up to the task. The Atlantic advantage only lasted a few minutes before Carroll adjusted and again controlled the ball on their offensive end most of the rest of the 2nd half. That pressure on Atlantic helped lead to the first goal. Clayton Weitl made a nice move on the left side and used his left foot to get the ball past the Atlantic goalie at the 21:36 mark and Carroll led 1-0. It didn’t take long for Carroll to build on the lead as Payton Janning split the defense with a long kick that found the net and Carroll was up 2-0 with 20:47 remaining.

Atlantic responded and cut the Carroll lead to 2-1 with 17:59 remaining on a breakaway goal that found the left corner of the net. They would have a few chances after that but Goins again would come up big. Carroll settled back into control around the 9:00 mark and put the match away when Weitl scored his second goal of the night with 1:37 left sneaking a shot by the goalie.

Clayton Weitl led the team with 2 goals and Payton Janning added the other goal. Treyton Goins finished with 10 saves. The Tigers had 16 shots on goal.

The Tigers head to Bondurant Farrar on Monday.
