An officer with the Jefferson Police Department was called to the Greene County Medical Center Emergency Department to investigate an incident resulting in a dog bite. The officer learned the female patient had entered a neighbor’s property in the 1000 block of West Lincoln Way Street and then reached over a fence to pet a dog. The animal bit the woman’s index finger, causing lacerations. The dog has been placed in a 10-day, in-home quarantine as the officer works to confirm rabies vaccinations and the owner has been allowed a specified period to become compliant with the animal licensing ordinance. The officer determined the animal was provoked, and according to the City of Jefferson ordinance, no action against the animal or the owner will be taken regarding the bite.
