A Carroll man charged in Carroll County District Court with drug trafficking filed his not guilty plea late last week. According to Carroll County District Court records, 56-year-old Michael O’Hara Sherrod, who has also listed residence in Creston, faces one count of possession of more than five grams of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class B felony with habitual offender enhancements. The charge stems from a Feb. 3 arrest by the Carroll Police Department for a separate drug possession charge. Authorities says Sherrod had approximately nine grams of methamphetamine separated into individual baggies on his person at the time of arrest. A judge signed an order Friday scheduling Sherrod’s jury trial to begin on Tuesday, May 25 with a pretrial conference slated for May 10. A class B felony in Iowa carries maximum penalty of up to 25 years in prison.
