Gov. Kim Reynolds issued an order Friday afternoon for all flags in Iowa to remain at half-staff through sunset on Tuesday, April 20 in remembrance of the victims killed in a shooting at an Indianapolis, Ind. FedEx facility Thursday evening. Flags were already lowered Friday for the funeral of Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Jim Smith, who was killed last week during a standoff in Grundy Center. Reynolds’ order was issued in conjunction with a proclamation from President Joe Biden to lower all U.S. flags for the same length of time. Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building, on flag displays in the Capitol Complex and at all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
