It appears as if a local community is poised to come out of the pandemic strong, with new businesses, housing growth and added recreational opportunities. During this time of physical distancing Sac City became united in their efforts to bring investors together. “Sac City and Sac County are experiencing significant growth at a time when conversations with other counties would indicate that many are struggling to grow,” says Brandy Ripley, director of Sac Economic Tourism and Development. In the past 18 months, they have launched new businesses, including a tech company, pharmacy, property investment firm and restaurants. A new boutique and coffee shop are opening soon and fiber optic internet installation expanded. The city completed improvements at the airport and to the sanitary sewer and water utilities. New homes are being built and homeowners are investing in major renovations and improvements. Façade improvement grants that were completed five years ago continue to inspire facelifts in the central business district and progressive financial institutions are supporting growth. Residents united to clean up the North Raccoon River to improve local water trails and the 150th Sac County Fair paved the way for new construction on the historic fairgrounds. All of this combined with the upgrades at the city-owned aquatic center, private golf course, community center and early childhood center are a draw for families of all sizes. This upcoming year will see new home construction, a RAGBRAI overnight stay, new signage at Chautauqua Park and aggressive marketing.
