Gov. Reynolds Orders Flags In Iowa To Half-Staff To Honor Former VP And Senator, Walter Mondale

Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff immediately in honor of former U.S. Vice President, Walter Mondale, who served in the office under President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981. The order to lower flags from sunrise to sunset was issued Wednesday afternoon in conjunction with a proclamation from President Joe Biden to lower all U.S. flags. Flags will remain at half-staff until Mondale’s internment. Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building, on flag displays in the Capitol Complex and at all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state. In addition to his four-year term as vice president, Mondale also served in the U.S. Senate from 1964 to 1976, as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan and as the Minnesota Attorney General. Mondale was 93 years old at the time of his death. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
