Supervisors Move Forward With Road Projects Near Halbur, Lanesboro And Glidden

The Carroll County Supervisors recently approved moving ahead with several road projects. Carroll County Engineer, Zac Andersen, then opened a discussion on a request from the City of Glidden.

He says they initially wanted to know if the county would be willing to pay for part of the project.

Andersen says he shared the county’s minimum requirements that call for the road to be 22 feet wide and eight inches thick with the City of Glidden. They responded, indicating there does not appear to be a problem with meeting the stipulations for the roughly 750 feet of work. Glidden has already put out a request for bids on other paving projects and would like to add this to the list. After receiving general approval from the supervisors to move ahead, Andersen says he will review the proposal with County Attorney, John Werden, and bring the results of that consultation back again for discussion at the Monday, April 26 meeting. The supervisors also awarded a three-mile paving project to the west of Halbur on County Road E46 to one of four competitive bidders, OMG Midwest, doing business as Cessford Construction Company.

That low bid came in at $556,796. The supervisors approved plans and a notice to bidders for the replacement of a bridge with a box culvert on Sycamore Avenue southwest of Lanesboro and another on Velvet Avenue south of Lanesboro. They also then approved the abandonment of excess right of way on Jade Avenue, south of Highway 30 to the west of Carroll. The state bought the right of way during work on U.S. 30 in the 1990s. Andersen says there is no longer any need for it.
