Dale Mueggenberg, age 77, of Breda, died Sunday, April 26, 2021 at his home near Breda.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Friedrichsen. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lector will be Rachel Nurse. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Dale’s grandchildren: Noah Heuton, Rachel Nurse, Amanda Mueggenberg, Nick Mueggenberg Blake Brightwell, Reese Brightwell, Michael Mueggenberg, Claire Mueggenberg, Ashley Mueggenberg, and Jacob Weston. Casket Bearers will be Dale’s grandchildren: Andrew Nurse, Brandon Heuton, Alex Heuton, and Dale’s sons-in-law: Paul Heuton, Brad Brightwell, and Steve Nurse. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Those in attendance at the funeral mass are required to wear face coverings and abide by current social distancing guidelines. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda. There will be no public visitation prior to the funeral mass on Thursday morning. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Anthony Hospital or the St. Anthony Cancer Center. Dale, the son of Gerhard and Evelyn (Krogman) Mueggenberg was born on June 8, 1943 on the family farm near Arcadia. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic High School in Breda in 1961. After his formal education Dale was employed as a farmhand. After a few years he moved to their current residence west of Breda where Dale began his own grain and livestock farming operation.
On April 24, 1965, Dale was united in marriage to Arlene Haverman at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle, with Fr. Victor Ramaeker presiding. The couple made their home on the farm where Dale continued his farming operation until 2006 when he retired. After retirement, Dale continued to help his brothers farm as needed. He also worked for Wittry’s Plumbing and Crop Production Services for several years.
Over the years Dale enjoyed, fishing, hunting, bowling, watching westerns, camping with his family, and short vacations especially to Branson. Dale’s greatest joy was his grandkids and watching them in their many activities. Dale also enjoyed socializing in many ways, but playing cards was a favorite way to socialize. Dale had a deep faith and was active at St. Bernard’s Parish serving as a Eucharistic Minister and being a part of the choir for several years.
Left to celebrate Dale’s life is his wife of 56 years Arlene Mueggenberg of Breda; children: Lori (Steve) Nurse of Ankeny, Bonnie (Paul) Heuton of Carroll, Dan (Stacy) Mueggenberg of West Des Moines, Larry Mueggenberg of Kearney, NE, and Marcy (Brad) Brightwell of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; siblings: Jane Peter of Dedham, JoAnn
Gehling of Carroll, Ken (Louayne) Mueggenberg of Carroll, Ruth (Gordon) Thomson of Port Angeles, WA, Linda Gehling of Carroll, Gary (Pat) Mueggenberg of Lake View, Richard (Marilyn) Mueggenberg of Arcadia, Mary (Randy) Grossman of Carroll, Alvin (Sue) Mueggenberg of Arcadia, Darrell (Renee) Mueggenberg of Arcadia, Neil (Marlene) Mueggenberg of Pahrump, NV; sisters-in-law Cindy Mueggenberg of Carroll, Nancy Mueggenberg of Breda, Bernice Mueggenberg of Sac City, Leona (John) Mueggenberg of Breda, Alvina (Allen) Thelen of Anita, Marian (Bob) Sturm of Ankeny, and Janet (Ron) Brincks of Roselle; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his children Becky and Billy; grandchild Zachary Heuton; parents: Gerhard and Evelyn Mueggenberg; mother and father in-law: Lawrence and Mary Haverman; brothers: Ronald Mueggenberg, Mark Mueggenberg; and brothers-in-law: Bob Peter, Bob Gehling, Carl Gehling and Laverne Mueggenberg.
