A Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC) nurse is being honored as one of Iowa’s Top 100 Nurses after being nominated by co-workers and community members. Jill Arp, RN, BSN is the Infection Prevention and Disaster Preparedness Coordinator at MRHC, however, nursing was not the career Arp originally pursued. Following her graduation from high school, she attended Morningside College for two years with the goal of acquiring an elementary education degree. After working with residents at the Manning Plaza, she changed course and entered a nursing program at Morningside. “At that time, there was such a long waiting list to get into any two-year nursing program, I decided to stay at Morningside for four years. I had already taken all my prerequisites so that allowed me to work and take nursing classes,” Arp says. She received that degree in 2006 and began working at the Manning Hospital on the medical/surgical floor and in the Emergency Department that year. In 2010, family scheduling conflicts saw Arp regretfully resigning that position and working for Carroll Area Nursing for two years before returning to the hospital. One of the many reasons Arp was nominated for this award is because of her service mindset. “Jill is the type of coworker that you find filling in wherever she could be of service because of her team player mentality,” says Pharmacy Director, Jen Morris, who has worked with Arp for 14 years. “While her primary area of responsibility involves setting our patients and facility up for success by preventing infections or educating and creating processes to improve safety, Jill has a servant heart that lends itself to helping others,” Morris adds. Jill and her husband, Kyle, are active in their community and in the activities of their three daughters: Karlee (13), Kendra (9) and Kimber (7). She coaches volleyball, sings with the Praise Band at Zion Lutheran Church, does music for the Sunday School program and has served on the Main Street Manning board and as a member of the Manning Rotary. Arp will receive her honor on May 2 at a virtual program.
