A Rippey woman accused of felony drug possession was sentenced to probation Thursday. According to Carroll County District Court records, 52-year-old Becky Sue Mitchell pled guilty to third-offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, which stemmed from a July 17, 2020 traffic stop by the Carroll Police Department. Authorities seized four small plastic baggies from her vehicle and lab results from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Laboratory confirmed the substances they contained were methamphetamine. Mitchell pled guilty to the charge after reaching an agreement with prosecutors. A five-year prison sentence was suspended, and she was instead placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. Over $1,200 in fines and surcharges were also suspended.
