Coon Rapids Motorcyclist Injured In Saturday Accident

A Coon Rapids man suffered suspected serious injuries in an accident Saturday evening. The Coon Rapids Police Department reports that 52-year-old Wallace John Harland Block of Ayrshire was traveling westbound on State Street in a 2011 Dodge Nitro at approximately 6:06 p.m. He had stopped at the yield sign at the intersection with 6th Avenue while 56-year-old Jerry Shane Hager was southbound on 6th Avenue on a 2009 Harley Davidson. Block told authorities he did not see the approaching motorcycle and entered the intersection. A passenger in the vehicle did see Hager and yelled for the driver to stop, which he did, but he was halfway into the intersection. Hager applied his brakes to avoid a collision but applied too much front brake, causing him to lose traction and tip the motorcycle, which skidded about 30 feet before coming to rest. Hager was thrown into the grass near the yield sign at the southwest corner of the intersection. Hager was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services. There was an estimated $1,000 in damage to the Harley and Block was cited for failure to obey a yield sign.
