Two Fallen Iowa Officers To Be Honored During National Police Week

This coming Friday, May 7, Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg will join other State of Iowa leadership, law enforcement partners and families in honoring and paying tribute to fallen peace officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving. On Peace Officer Memorial Day, they want to stand steadfast in remembering the brave men and women of law enforcement who died in the line of duty protecting Iowans and their communities. The public is invited to join them in in honoring Deputy Stephanie J. Shreurs of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Special Officer John H. Bousman with the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. Sixty-year-old Deputy Schreurs was involved in a single-vehicle accident near Rock Rapids on Aug. 9, 2019 and succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 13, 2019. Fifty-year-old Special Policeman John Bousman was struck and killed by a train while patrolling a bridge between Clinton and Illinois on Aug. 10, 1992. The Peace Officer Memorial ceremony will also be posted to the Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) Facebook page, a link to which can be found below. The ceremony is a traditional part of National Police Week, which will be observed from Sunday, May 9 through Saturday, May 15. Everyone is encouraged to take the time to thank their local law enforcement officers for the protection and service they provide our communities.
