Carroll at Carroll Tournament

The Carroll Tigers wrapped up a cold and windy Saturday going 1-1 at their home tournament.

In their first contest of the day against Humboldt, the Tigers were scored on in rapid succession, giving Humboldt a 2-0 lead early in the first half. With 27:37 left to play, Carroll cut the Humboldt lead in half at 2-1 with a goal from Clayton Weitl. Late in the first half, a 30 minute rain delay stopped play and gave the players a longer than usual rest. After play continued, both teams were unable to score within the last 10 minutes in the first half, keeping the lead in Humboldt’s corner at 2-1.

In the second half, Carroll played aggressively for the first 20 minutes and didn’t allow Humboldt to score. Ultimately, Humboldt found the back of the net again and scored twice and finished the game with a 4-1 win. Clayton Weitl finished the game with a goal, Nick Sorenson had an assist and Treyton Goins recorded 20 saves. As a team, Carroll attempted nine shots on goal.

Carroll traveled to the middle school to play the consolation game against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. Wind conditions made it hard for both teams to score from any distance, but Carroll found a way to make it happen. With less than a minute and a half off the clock, Carroll got hot and scored, making it 1-0. Thomas Jefferson answered the call and tied up the game at 1-1. Carroll used that as motivation to score twice more in the first half, with their last goal coming with 42 seconds left. Carroll took the 3-1 lead into halftime.

Just as they did in the first half, Carroll scored quickly in the second half, giving them a 4-1 lead. Thomas Jefferson found the back of the net again to cut the Carroll lead in half at 4-2 with 26:20 to go. Both teams took plenty of shots on each other, but none were successful with the remaining 26 minutes. The Tigers closed out the game with a strong 4-2 win. In this game, Emmanuel Jioklow scored three goals, Clayton Weitl had a goal, and Markus Wagner and Eli Lee both had an assist. Treyton Goins had another good defensive game recording 11 saves. The Tigers took 14 shots as a team.

Carroll improves to 4-8 on the season. The Tigers are in action next when they travel to take on North Polk on Tuesday, May 11th.
