Iowa May Not See Fuel Shortages, But Unleaded Prices Up Nearly 10 Cents Over Past Week

Even though AAA of Iowa reports they are not seeing any gasoline shortage impacts from a cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline computers, serving the south and eastern parts of the U.S., prices have risen nearly 10 cents at the pump over the past week. As of Wednesday, May 12, the price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa averaged $2.89, up $.09 from last week and $1.17 higher than this same time last year. The national average is at $3.01, up $.08 cents over the week. Retail diesel prices are up $.03 in Iowa with a statewide average of $3.05, compared to $2.15 in 2020. The current Iowa diesel price is $.09 lower then the national average of $3.14. Wholesale ethanol fell by $.10 and is currently priced at $2.34 per gallon. Natural gas prices bumped up slightly, by $.03 cents, and are now at $2.97 per MMbtu. Heating oil and propane rates for the remaining spring and upcoming summer will only be reported one time a month.
