Des Moines Man Arrested In April On Drug Trafficking Charge Scheduled For Trial In July

The jury trial for a Des Moines man arrested in April on drug trafficking charges has been scheduled for this summer in Carroll County District Court. According to an order filed Friday, 24-year-old Taylor John Kramer faces one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class B felony, and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony. Each count carries a triple penalty enhancement due to prior drug convictions. The charges stem from a Feb. 26 traffic stop by the Carroll Police Department. Authorities say approximately 20 grams of meth, seven grams of marijuana, plastic baggies, a scale and cash were located in Kramer’s vehicle. He was arrested on April 22 after test results from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) laboratory returned positive for narcotics. Kramer filed a written not guilty plea to the charges last week, and his trial is set to begin on Tuesday, July 13 with a pretrial conference slated for June 28. He faces a combined maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
