Lake City Non-Profit To Use Grant Proceeds For Food Bank Storage And Distribution Site

A grant of more than $160,000 will aid a regional non-profit with food storage and distribution. Opportunity Living of Lake City has received a $166,216.80 Iowa Food Bank Association grant award. The grants were available to Feeding America food bank partners and made possible through CARES Act funding for the six Feeding America food banks that have banded together to ensure no Iowan lacks proper nutrition. “Opportunity Living is over the moon excited for this grant,” says CEO, Shannon Mahannah. “It is helpful in our phase of updating and moving our food to the warehouse formerly known as Bob’s Market. We have a wonderful partnership with the Food Bank of Iowa and we receive over 1,900 pounds of food donations each month.” Mahannah adds they will be using this site to house all the food for their group homes as early as this summer. This will not only streamline operations, it will also make it possible for Opportunity Living to take in more donations. “The dietary staff will be able to shop with ease for weekend menu planning, reduce food waste and will be able to work with the recreation department on food needs for special events and outings,” says Director of Facilities Management, Jean Lampe. “We are so grateful for this grant and our Food Bank partnership.”
