A Carroll man originally charged with forgery and theft was sentenced Friday after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to Carroll County District Court records, 26-year-old Corey Allen Mutum was arrested in January for stealing checks from the victim and using them without the account owner’s consent. As part of the plea deal, the felony forgery charges against Mutum were dismissed, and he was sentenced to 60 days in jail with all but two days suspended and credit for time served on the fourth-degree theft count. He was also ordered to pay over $1,200 in fines, court costs and victim restitution and was placed on probation for one year.
