CCSD Board Of Education Moves Forward With Plans For $230,000 Roof Replacement Project At High School

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education unanimously approved a bid Monday night for roof replacement work at the high school that came in nearly $20,000 under estimate. According to Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, the board budgeted $250,000 for the project. Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, Jeff Dvorak, explains the scope of the proposed work.

Dvorak says they held a bid opening late last week and reviewed these with the project architect. The board held a public hearing on the project during Monday night’s meeting. School officials did not receive any written or oral comments for or against the proposal. Dvorak then presented the bids to the board

North Cedar Surface’s proposal was nearly $90,000 lower than the next closest bid, and Dvorak says he was initially concerned about the large discrepancy. However, he notes the company has the backing of the project architect.

Board member, Cindy Johnson, indicated she would prefer to award projects to local companies and questioned why they did not receive any bids from those located within the district. Dvorak says they did reach out to local businesses to make them aware of the project, but none of them felt confident they could meet the required timeframe for completion. The board unanimously selected the low bid from North Cedar Surface. Construction is expected to begin the second week of June and be completed before classes resume in August.
