Deferred Judgement Approved For Carroll Man Accused Of Lascivious Acts With A Child

A Carroll man who pled guilty earlier this year to lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony, was sentenced Monday in Carroll County District Court. According to court records, 18-year-old Brandon Lashawn Dreesman was originally charged with third-degree sexual abuse, also a class C felony, after an investigation determined he had sexual contact with a 13-year-old victim between Aug. 12 and Aug. 24 of last year. Dreesman was 17 years old at the time of the incident but was charged as an adult due to the nature of the offence. He pled guilty in April to the lesser charge after reaching an agreement with prosecutors. On Monday, a judge sentenced Dreesman to 10 years in prison with credit for time served and ordered him to pay over $1,700 in fines, surcharges and court costs. However, Dreesman’s request for a deferred judgement was granted and the prison term suspended. Instead, he was placed on probation for five years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services, and court records regarding the case will be expunged upon successful completion of his probation. A no-contact order between Dreesman and the victim is in effect through May 17, 2026, and he will be required to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry within five days of his sentencing.
