Carroll American Legion Memorial Day Parade Is Back In 2021, But Volunteers Are Needed For Flag Displays

This year will be the first since 2018 that the City of Carroll will see the American Legion Memorial Day parade. Legion member, RT Schreck, says in 2019 the parade was cancelled due to rain and the pandemic took it out in 2020.

There is, however, a lot of work that needs to be done before the parade. Schreck says they are looking for volunteers to help place flags at the cemetery.

Then, on Memorial Day, help is needed with the impressive Avenue of Flags display.

Schreck says the Legion had raised money for flags along U.S. Highway 30 and the business district a couple of years ago, and they want to give a special thanks to some individuals who have stepped up and volunteered to hang all of those flags.

The Memorial Day parade will have participants gather at South Side Park at 10 a.m. with the parade starting at 10:30 a.m. They will march from the park to the cemetery, where a special ceremony will take place.

Schreck says anyone can participate in the parade and they are all invited to join them at the park prior to the start, no registration is necessary.
