The Kuemper Knights end their opening contest of the 2021 season against Harlan with a comeback win Monday. Harlan started off the contest in a big way, getting up 8-1 by the bottom of the fourth inning. Kuemper saw a comedy of error in those innings that cost them those runs. The lone run came from Logan Sibenaller when he got home off of a Trevor Rial RBI single. Nate Heinrichs came in after Austin Tigges threw three and one thirds innings.
The Knights used the fourth inning to get back in the contest, cutting Harlan’s lead to 8-5. Austin Tigges started off the hitting in that inning and the rest fell into place. Tigges, Luke Hicks, John Mayhall, and Cooper Pottebaum all reached home in the fourth. Kuemper cut the lead further to 8-6 in the 5th inning thanks to Cal Wanninger reaching home off a balk. Harlan added more runs to their lead in the sixth inning making it 11-5. Kuemper wasn’t done by any means as they added six big runs in the 6th inning. Logan Sibenaller reached home off of a wild pitch giving the Knights the first lead of the game at 12-11. Blake Pottebaum relieved Nate Heinrichs of pitching to close out the game with two strikeouts. The Knights get a great comeback victory and win it 11-10. They improve to 1-0 on the season as Harlan falls to 0-1.
Kuemper will entertain Atlantic next on Wednesday, June 2nd.

Carroll High opened up their 2021 baseball season by going up against Gilbert Monday. The Tigers struggled to get hits in this contest, but they walked away with experience for the games to follow.
Gilbert started the first half of the game by getting all of their runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings off of three hits. Carroll was able to bring a runner home when Treyton Goins got an RBI single. They had runners on first and second in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn’t push across any more runs. An error cost the Tigers an unearned run as well in the game. Through 5 and 2/3 innings pitched, Austin Fineran had six strikeouts, three walks, and allowed four earned runs and three hits. The Tigers fall 5-1 to Gilbert. Carroll starts off their season at 0-1 as Gilbert improves to 1-0.
The Tigers are in action next when they entertain Denison Schleswig on Tuesday, May 25th. Jeff Blankman will be broadcasting that contest over on 93.7 KKRL beginning around 7:15.

Ar-We-Va and Coon Rapids Bayard were brought into extra innings during their game Monday where the Rockets got the slight edge. It was a slow climb to start for the Rockets, as they found themselves up 3-2 up until the 7th inning. Tanner Oswald hit the home tying run to bring home Aaron McAlister. Coon Rapids Bayard got on top 4-3 after a pair of walks from Lance Clayburg and Kolby Culbertson pushed across the go-ahead run.
The Rockets tied the game back up at 4-4 with an error from the Crusaders and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th. In the 8th inning, the Rockets loaded the bases with two outs and got the decisive run on a slow roller that got past the pitcher Preston McAlister. The Rockets won in extra innings 5-4. The Rockets begin the 2021 season at 1-0 as Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 0-1.

Audubon picked up a great win Monday in their season opener against AHSTW. The Wheelers started off the scoring quickly by scoring in the first inning, leading 1-0. They’d add two more runs in the third inning, making it 3-0. The biggest asset for the Wheelers was Gavin Smith, who ended his day hitting with two RBIs, going 1-2, and pitched four innings where he allowed one hit, one run, five walks, one hit ball, and five strikeouts. AHSTW got on the board in the sixth inning, making it 3-1. Audubon ended the game with their best inning, bringing in four runs and ultimately winning 7-1. The Wheelers begin the 2021 season with a record of 1-0 as AHSTW falls to 0-1.

IKM-Manning started off their 2021 baseball season against Underwood on Monday. On the mound for the Wolves was Connor Richards, where in six innings of work, allowed two earned runs, six runs in total, and had two walks in his plate appearances.
The Wolves were unable to get on the board, but saw some productive innings. IKM-Manning didn’t allow a run in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th innings. West Central Valley got three runs to start the contest, and ended the 7th inning by adding four more runs to their total, winning the game by a final score of 10-0.

Glidden Ralston started off the 2021 baseball season with a tough game against West Central Valley Monday. The Wildcats started Holden Hein on the mound where in three innings pitched, allowed six runs, no errors, six strikes outs, five walks, and two hit by pitches. Hein worked too many full counts and was eventually swapped for John Witver in the 4th inning.
Whitver left three runners on base during his three innings on the mound, but he had three costly errors. Brigham Daniel as the courtesy runner provided two stolen bases and eventually a run to give Glidden Ralston their first run of the game. Glidden would grab another run in the 4th inning and held off West Central Valley well in the remaining three innings of play. Despite a well played three innings on defense, Glidden Ralston fell to West Central Valley by a score of 12-2.
