The game was a closer than the final score indicated but Harlan was in control most of the game. Kuemper had a chance in the 1st inning putting Jordan Schwabe who worked out a walk on a great at bat on 3rd and Kenzie Schon who reached on an error on 2nd with 1 out. The Knights didn’t take advantage and the game went to the 2nd scoreless. Harlan responded in the 2nd after going down in order in the 1st inning. They strung together 5 hits (4 singles and a double) and scored 3 runs. The Cyclones stretched the lead in the 4th helped by a couple Kuemper errors. The lead sat at 7-0 after 4 innings. Brianna Lux picked up Kuemper first hit in the 4th but was stranded at 2nd base. Harlan added a run top 5th before Kuemper answered in the bottom half. Kenzie Schon earned a 1 out walk, Kenadee Loew singled moving Schon to 3rd and Kamryn Venner added another single, scoring Schon. Harlan added 5 runs in the 7th to blow the game open.
Brianna Lux, Kamryn Venner and Kenadee Loew had Kuemper hits, Venner had the RBI and Kenzie Schon scored their lone run.
The Knights fall to 0-1 and will look to rebound against Ogden on Wednesday.

Carroll had several girls in new spots as they traveled to Gilbert to open the season. Ava Gross had a very good night in centerfield for a bright spot. The Tigers hit the ball hard but didn’t catch a lot of breaks finishing with 6 hits. Josie Ayala had half of Carroll base hits, adding a double and a pair of stolen bases.
Gilbert scored a pair of runs in each of the first-two innings. Carroll rallied in the 3rd when Ayala picked up one of her three hits and scored on a hit by Camryn Schable. Carroll hung tight into the 5th when Gilbert scored 6 runs to blow it open. They added a pair of runs in the 6th to end the game.
Josie Ayala finished with 3 hits including a double and scored a run. Camryn Schable drove in a run with a base hit and Chloe Gallegos and Parker Adams each had a base hit. Alyssa Brant notched the loss going 5 1/3 innings allowing 13 hits and 12 runs.
Carroll looks to bounce back Tuesday when they host Denison Schleswig on KIKD 106.7.

Ar-We-Va opened the season with a big home win while Coon Rapids Bayard had to like how they played minus 1 inning. The Crusaders picked up a pair of runs in the top of the 2nd inning and led 2-0 until Ar-We-Va woke up their bats and scored 10 times in the 3rd. The Rockets added 3 more runs in the 4th and ended the game with a scoreless top of the 5th. The Rockets had 9 hits and picked up 10 RBI. They walked 5 times and were hit twice. Coon Rapids Bayard finished the game with 4 hits with no extra base hits. They only struck out 3 times but didn’t earn any walks.
Kora Obrecht had a good night for Ar-We-Va with a pair of hits, an RBI and scoring a run. Jadeyn Smith doubled and drove in 4 runs while picking up the win in the circle, going 5 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run. Hannah Kraus kept getting on base and scored 3 times.
Alaya Betts, Bridget Shirbroun, Emma Hart and Shelbi Wiskus all had singles. Wiskus and Lydia Hofbauer scored their runs.
Ar-We-Va heads to Glidden Ralston on Wednesday, Coon Rapids Bayard host Boyer Valley on Tuesday.

Audubon held on to start the season 1-0 with a nice road win. The Wheelers struck early when Kali Irlmeier helped herself out with a double that scored a pair of runs in the 1st inning. Audubon led 4-0 after the 1st and increased it to 5-0 in the 3rd. it stayed that way until the 5th when AHSTW scored a run, they added two more in the 6th to make things interesting. Kali Irlmeier picked up the win for the Wheelers going 5 2/3 innings. Alexis Obermeier came in and closed the door picking up the save.
Katelyn Nielsen was a big part of the offense finishing with 2 hits and scoring twice. Irlmeier added a base hit to her double going 2-4 with 2 RBI. She allowed 5 hits in the circle and 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts. Kylee Hartl and Addie Hocker each had a base hit and an RBI.
Audubon heads to Riverside on Tuesday.

IKM-Manning dropped their season opener as Underwood scored 10 runs in the 1st inning and then held the Wolves scoreless until the 3rd inning but by that time the game was 16-0. The Wolves picked up a pair of hits and were hit by a pitch 3 times.
Jessica Christensen and Alexis Gruhn each had a single. Christensen and Lauren Greving scored their runs and Gruhn, Zoey Melton and Ella Richards reached base after being hit by a pitch.
The Wolves travel to Griswold on Tuesday.

South Central Calhoun settled in late in the game and nearly rallied after being down. First game jitters led to some errors and early but the Titans settled in late and cut it to a 5 run game late.
