The Jefferson Police Department received two reports on Monday about scam attempts utilizing the same tactics. The first came in at approximately 10:08 a.m. and the resident told authorities the caller had advised her of fraudulent activity on her bank card. They then began demanding account information. Another report was received from a resident at approximately 8 p.m. with the caller saying there had been unauthorized activity on their bank account. Neither individual suffered any loss as of this airing. Authorities remind everyone that scammers will use any means at their disposal to try to get you to reveal your confidential information. Do not give this out over the phone and if you question the legitimacy of such a call, hang up and contact your bank or the associated business directly. Reporting these types of scam attempts to local authorities helps protect others from falling victim.
