Denison Schleswig at Kuemper
2OT
Kuemper 4
Denison 3
Kuemper’s Catherine Mayhall got a game-winning goal in double overtime to give the Knights a great win against Denison Schleswig Monday. Both teams scored big goal after big goal, ultimately ending the first half tied 2-2. Denison grabbed the lead in the second half as they scored with 15 minutes left in the game. Kuemper’s tying goal came with five minutes left in regulation, bringing the game to overtime. Head Coach Russell Wintermote says Kiley Trecker, Kora Thomsen, and Karly Baumhover were all the key cogs in attacking and distributing to Mayhall and Prescott all night.
Both teams were unable to net a goal in the first overtime, so another overtime was needed to get a winner. It came down to Prescott passing the ball to Mayhall who netted the final goal to give the Knights a 4-3 victory in double overtime. Coach Wintermote says his players are finding ways to compete and win when they are not hitting on all cylinders. The Knights end regular season play with a record of 10-7 on the season as Denison Schleswig falls to 4-11.
Kuemper starts postseason action as they take on Nodaway Valley in the Class 1A Region 3 Quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 26th.
