Denison Schleswig At Carroll

Carroll 13

Denison Schleswig 3              (6 Innings)

Carroll improved to 1-1 on the season with an impressive win against Denison Schleswig. Slade Sibenaller was outstanding on the hill, Ryan Johnston, Cade Schable, Colby Christensen, Treyton Goins and Evan Loew all had big hits.

Denison Schleswig used 3 hit by pitches, a couple wild pitches and passed balls to score a pair of runs early. They scored in the top of the 1st when Evan Turin was hit by a pitch and later scored on a wild pitch. In the 4th inning Braiden Heiden was hit by a pitch and would also score on a wild pitch. That was all the offense they could muster against Sibenaller who only allowed 2 hits while striking out 10. His fastball was tough and his breaking ball was equally as strong as he fanned 7 straight batters from the 1st to the 3rd inning. Denison Schleswig never had more than 1 hit in an inning.

Carroll didn’t score until the 4th but stranded 5 runners between the 2nd and 3rd innings and did a nice job making Jaiden Heiden work hard on the mound. The Tigers finally broke through in the 4th inning. Jack Troutman started the rally with a walk, Colby Christensen, singled Cade Schable singled, scoring Troutman and the Tigers were down 2-1. Austin Fineran worked out a nice walk to load the bases. With one out Ty Nissen lifted a fly ball to left center field that scored the tying run. The Monarchs were close to getting out of trouble with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd but they intentionally walked Sibenaller to get to Ryan Johnston who laced a three run double down the left field line and Carroll led 5-2. Johnston scored on a Treyton Goins single and Carroll was in control up 6-2. The Tigers added a run in the 5th but Denison Schleswig answered in the 6th.

Carroll got rolling again in the 6th and were able to score the first six guys that came to the plate. The game ended on a wild play. Nathan Gallup the Monarchs catcher made an amazing catch near his own dugout on a foul ball off the bat of Ty Nissen. Gallup crashed into the dugout railing with his chest and went down in the dugout. Carroll had two runners on base and they both tagged and scored to end the ball game.

Ryan Johnston finished with 3 hits, including a double and 3 RBI. Treyton Goins added 2 hits and stole 3 bases. Colby Christensen had a pair of hits and scored 3 times. Slade Sibenaller got the win going 5 2/3 innings, allowing 2 hits and 3 runs.
