SCC Softball Grabs Win By Scoring Seven Runs in Final Two Innings Thursday; Carroll High, Kuemper, and IKM-Manning Fall

Kuemper was on the road Thursday as they took on undefeated Exira-EHK. The Knights started off the contest with the early lead as they got a runner home to get up 1-0. Exira-EHK responded in the bottom of the first with two runs to get the 2-1 lead. The Spartans added six runs to their lead, bringing their total to 8-1 and played good defense in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, not allowing Kuemper to score any runners. 

 

Kuemper eventually responded in the sixth inning with two runs to cut the lead down to 8-3. Brianna Lux got those batters home with a two RBI double in the sixth. Kamryn Venner was the relief pitcher starting in the second inning with two outs. In this game, she recorded three strikeouts and allowed two runs and one earned run. The Knights tightened up their defense and didn’t allow a run in the sixth or seventh innings, while they added another run in the top of the seventh. Despite that last run scored, Exira-EHK were able to finish the game and defeat Kuemper by a final score of 8-4. 

 

Kuemper falls to 1-2 on the season as Exira-EHK improves to 4-0. Kuemper is in action next when they take on Southeast Valley on Saturday, May 29th.

Carroll at North Polk

The Carroll Tigers were on the road Thursday evening as they played in cold and windy conditions against North Polk. In the first and second innings, North Polk found ways to score quickly as they were up 6-0 after two innings. The biggest highlight for the Tigers was Josie Ayala clearing the fence and getting her first homerun of the season, and cutting down the North Polk lead to 6-1. 

 

North Polk pushed on and ended the game in three innings by scoring an additional seven runs, winning 13-1. North Polk improves to 2-1 on the season as Carroll falls to 1-3. Alyssa Brant added two strikeouts to her season total tonight, giving her an overall nine strikeouts so far. 

 

Carroll is in action next as they take part in the Ogden tournament on Saturday, May 29th.

SE Valley at South Central Calhoun

South Central Calhoun came to life in the sixth and seventh innings as they came back to win against Southeast Valley Thursday. The Titans, looking for their first win of the season, started off the contest by allowing six runs in the first two innings. Southeast Valley added another run to their big lead in the fourth inning, bringing the score to 7-1. Sally Musselman was the Titan’s pitcher in this contest, and she threw lights out from the fourth inning onward. She ended the game with six strikeouts and didn’t allow a run in the fifth, sixth, or seventh innings. 

 

In the bottom of the sixth, the Titans turned the game around and scored three runs to cut down the Jaguar lead to 7-4. After another impressive showing by Musselman in the top of the seventh, the Titans went to work. Three more South Central Calhoun base runners were brought home in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at 6-6. Addisyn Korleski was the hero of this game when she got a base hit that brought home the winning run to give the Titans an 8-7 comeback win. 

 

The Titans improve to 1-1 on the season as Southeast Valley falls to 0-2. The Titans are in action next when they entertain Pocahontas Area on Friday, May 27th.

Tri-Center at IKM-Manning

IKM-Manning took on Tri-Center Thursday evening in cold and windy conditions. The Wolves and Trojans got off to hot starts as both teams scored four runs in the first two innings. Tri-Center continued hitting well in the top of the fourth inning as they brought home four batters and grabbed an 8-4 lead. 

 

In the fifth inning, Tri-Center played well on both sides of the field, adding two more runs and limiting IKM-Manning to a single run. Freshman Ella Richards of IKM-Manning pitched all seven innings of this game where she had three strikeouts and gained good experience pitching a full game. The defense for the Wolves saw some difficulties as they recorded eight errors in this game. IKM-Manning and Tri-Center in the seventh inning both scored two runs, but ultimately it was Tri-Center who walked away victorious with a 12-7 win. 

 

IKM-Manning falls to 0-2 on the season as Tri-Center improves to 1-3. The Wolves are on the road on Friday, May 28th as they take on Missouri Valley.
