Carroll Police Department Responds To Two Motor Vehicle Accidents Friday Afternoon

The Carroll Police Department responded to two motor vehicle accidents over the weekend. Both occurred just over an hour apart from each other on Friday afternoon, the first at 12:30 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of W. 15th Street and U.S. Highway 71. Authorities say a 2009 Volkswagen Sport, operated by 15-year-old Karsyn Kent of Carroll, was traveling southbound on 71 when a 2013 Buick Encore, driven by 53-year-old Michelle Hinners of Carroll, pulled out from a parking lot and struck the Kent sedan on the passenger side. Functional damages were reported to both vehicles and Hinners was cited for failure to yield upon entering a highway. The second accident occurred on the other side of town at the intersection of Grant and 18th Street at approximately 1:45 p.m. According to law enforcement, a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Noah Hensen of Carroll, was traveling southbound on Grant and proceeded into the intersection after stopping for the posted sign. Hensen was forced to abruptly stop due to another vehicle entering the intersection. At the same time, a school bus, owned by the Carroll Community School District and driven by 63-year-old James Van Hove of Carroll, was also traveling southbound and failed to avoid a collision with the rear of the Hensen car. No injuries were reported, but both vehicles sustained functional damage.
