Colby Christensen continued the success with a two run double to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Carlisle responded well in the top of the second and fourth innings, grabbing the lead at 4-3. Audubon at Missouri Valley
Audubon 9
Missouri Valley 8
After a no hitter up until the sixth inning, to a closer than expected contest, the Audubon Wheelers escaped with a win against Missouri Valley Thursday. Audubon switched between four pitchers in this contest and had some good base running to boot. Audubon started off with six runs between the first and second innings, getting up 6-0. The no-hitter in the first five innings, thanks in part to the efforts of Aiden Alt and Gavin Smith, gave the Wheelers time to increase their lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Missouri Valley broke through and started to hit well and grabbed three runs, cutting down the Audubon lead to 8-3. The Wheelers added another run in the top of the seventh, extending their lead to 9-3. Smith and Ethan Klocke both had success in their at bats, Smith going 3-3 and recording a double, 2 RBI, and four runs scored, and Klocke going 3-3 as well with three RBI and a run scored. Braden Wessel replaced Gavin Larsen on the mound after Larsen allowed four runs. Missouri Valley grabbed five runs to get extremely close to the Audubon lead. Despite the large comeback, the Wheelers stringed together some good defensive plays and Wessel struckout the last batter to give Audubon a closer than needed 9-8 win.
The Wheelers improve to 3-1 on the season as Missouri Valley falls to 5-2. Audubon climbs up the Western Iowa Conference standings as they now have a conference record of 2-1 and are right behind Missouri Valley, who are 3-1 in the Western Iowa Conference.
