A Des Moines man died early Friday morning following a single vehicle accident northwest of Bagley. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 30-year-old Theodore Wayne Sanford McGinnis was traveling northbound in a 2007 Chevrolet Impala on J Avenue between 4:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Their initial investigation determined McGinnis had struck a pheasant in the roadway, causing him to veer onto the west shoulder. He then overcorrected and entered the east ditch. Greene County dispatch was notified of the crash at approximately 6:33 a.m. McGinnis had died from the injuries sustained by the time first responders arrived. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Emergency Medical Services also assisted at the scene.
