Kuemper snapped a 3 game losing streak and got off to a better start than what they had the past couple games. Head Coach Randy Snyder and Blake Pottebaum said Thursday after their loss to Denison Schleswig that they needed to get some runs early Friday and get the offense going. They were able to do that, scoring 4 times in the 2nd inning and 3 more in the 3rd. The Knights didn’t stop to rest, adding 2 more in the 4th and 6th innings. Red Oak tried to rally with a 4-run 5th inning but the Knights slammed the door closed.
Cal Wanninger did it with his bat and on the mound Friday in game 1 picking up 4 hits including a double and driving in 3. He also pitched 3 innings allowing 4 hits and no earned runs. Blake Pottebaum scored 3 times, Luke Hicks had a pair of hits and Trevor Rial scored twice.
The Knights swept the double-header with an 8-run 4th inning to take the second game in 5 innings. They got great pitching from Trevor Rial and Luke Hicks as they combined to allow 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7 in 5 innings. The offense was efficient, scoring 12 runs on 8 hits. They added 8 RBI. Kuemper batted 13 batters in the 4th inning and scored 8-runs with just 2 hits. Red Oak walked 3, hit 1 batter and had 3 errors to help keep the rally going.
Blake Pottebaum and Luke Hicks each had 2 hits in the win. Austin Tigges had a 2-run home run in the 1st inning. Tigges and Max Irlmeier each had 2 RBI. Blake Pottebaum, Tigges and Michael Pottebaum all scored two runs.
The Knights improved to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. They host Creston for a varsity double-header on Monday late morning.

West Harrison at Ar-We-Va

Ar-We-Va lost a tough contest against West Harrison Friday evening. West Harrison grabbed a quick 5-0 lead following the top of the second inning. Ar-We-Va kept it close in the bottom of the first as they’d cut down the West Harrison lead to 2-1. From the third to the sixth inning, both teams traded innings of solo runs and scoreless innings. West Harrison entered the top of the seventh with a 7-3 lead. The lone RBI for Ar-We-Va was thanks to Conner Kirsch thanks to a sacrifice fly.
West Harrison had a big inning as they’d bring home three runners and take a 10-3 lead. The Hawkeyes had to close out the game in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Rockets a chance to make up runs late. Unfortunately, West Harrison was too much on defense and the Rockets ended up falling 10-3. Will Ragaller and Conner Kirsch were on the hill for Ar-We-Va and they’d record eight strikeouts off three earned runs.
Ar-We-Va falls to 6-3 on the season and 5-3 in Rolling Valley Conference play as West Harrison improves to 7-4 on the season and 5-3 in conference play. The Rockets return from the weekend break with a road game against Coon Rapids Bayard Monday, June 14th.

Riverside at Audubon (Varsity Doubleheader)
Audubon took a win and lost one in their doubleheader matchup against Riverside Friday evening. In game one, Audubon’s bats were putting in work, as they scored 5 runs in the first three innings. Ethan Klocke was the big contributor for Audubon in game one, going 2-4 and getting an RBI double. Riverside and Audubon traded blows in the fourth inning, both scoring two runs each, but keeping Audubon in the lead 7-2. Riverside started to chip away at Audubon’s lead as they scored solo runs in the fifth and sixth, cutting the lead down to 7-4. Cooper Nielsen and Jordan Schrader took the brunt of the four runs on the hill, but they only managed three hits and recorded nine strikeouts. Gavin Larsen closed out game one and gave Audubon a 7-4 win.
In game two, the tables turned as Riverside scored plenty of runs in the bottom of the third. Riverside got on the board first with a solo run in the bottom of the first and kept Audubon scoreless through four innings. In the bottom of the third, Riverside drove in six runs to grab a big 7-0 lead. Audubon got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth and sixth. Teddy DuVall got an RBI off a sac fly as Evan Alt and Alex Foran scored the two runs for Audubon. Riverside grabs a 9-2 win over Audubon to split the doubleheader match.
Audubon improves to 6-4 on the season, 5-4 in the Western Iowa Conference as Riverside improves to 3-9 on the season and 2-8 in WIC play. Audubon continues their season following the weekend break with a road game against Treynor on Monday, June 14th.

East Sac made quick work of Storm Lake St. Mary’s winning in four innings Friday evening and getting their first win of the season. East Sac started their night with a solo run scored in the bottom of the first, while performing well defensively and keeping St Mary’s at bay with no runs scored. Dylan Meredith was on the hill for East Sac, and in four innings pitched, he only allowed three hits, one earned run, and recorded three strikeouts. East Sac hit the ball well in the bottom of the second inning and scored often as they got out to a 10-0 lead. St Mary’s got on the board for the first time in the top of the third with two runners scored, cutting down the East Sac lead to 10-2.
The Readers created more opportunities to score as they brought home 11 runners and took a 21-2 lead after three innings. Preston Mauer had a productive night, going 3-3, four RBI, two runs scored, and getting a stolen base. Aden Vondrak and Karter Ludwig also did well in their at bats, both going 3-4 and getting at least one RBI. All but Caleb Villhauer got a base hit in this game as Meredith closed out the game in the top of the four to give East Sac a 21-2 win.
East Sac improves to 1-7 on the season, 1-4 in Twin Lake Conference play as Storm Lake St Mary’s falls to 0-6 on the season, 1-5 in conference play. East Sac comes back from the weekend break with a road game against Newell Fonda on Monday, June 14th.

Coon Rapids Bayard was on the road Friday where they got a good team win against Glidden Ralston. The Crusaders got on the board in the top of the first when Josh Ramirez got a sac fly to score Easton Hays, giving Coon Rapids Bayard a 1-0 lead. Glidden Ralston’s Holden Hein left two Coon Rapids Bayard runners on base and got a strikeout to end the half inning. Glidden Ralston went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first as Jacob Estrada got two strikeouts to start off his night on the hill. The Crusaders added to their lead in the top of the second with Quentin Culbertson and Estrada scoring thanks to Hays’ RBI single and Aaron McAlister reaching on an error. The Crusaders took a 3-0 lead into the second inning.
Glidden Ralston responded with a run of their own, getting Ethan Olberding home due to a balk by Estrada. Tanner Oswald gave Coon Rapids Bayard a 4-1 lead with an RBI single to score Lance Clayburg. The Crusaders put on the jets in the top of the fourth, as they got five runs to add to their total, now at 9-1. Ramirez got another sac fly in that half inning and added 2 RBI to his total on the night. Glidden Ralston faced three different pitchers from Coon Rapids Bayard as they left runners on base, and had bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth. Ramirez, Clayburg, and Gabe Obert scored three more runs for Coon Rapids Bayard, now leading 12-1 entering the bottom of the fifth. Karter Kennebeck for Glidden Ralston was able to give the Wildcats another scored run as he took advantage of a Crusader error and cut the lead down to 12-2. Despite that run scored, Coon Rapids Bayard closed out the game with a strike out and a 2-3 play to ultimately defeat the Wildcats 12-2 in five innings.
Coon Rapids Bayard will take part in the Carroll weekend tournament on Saturday as they take on Saydel in the first round starting at 12:15 at Merchant Park. Glidden Ralston has a small break in their schedule as their next game will take place on Wednesday, June 16th against Ar-We-Va at Westside.

South Central Calhoun had a tough late game finish as they fell to Emmetsburg Friday evening. The Titans held the 1-0 lead after the first inning as Gavin Batta got an RBI Double to score Ayden Toms. Emmetsburg from the gate came out with big run innings, getting six runs in the top of the second, and four more between the third, fourth, and fifth innings. The E-Hawks wrapped up the game in the top of the sixth with ten runs to take a 20-1 lead and end the game in six innings.
South Central Calhoun will come back from the weekend break to welcome Alta Aurelia on their home field on Monday, June 14th.
