Carroll, East Sac and Kuemper At OA-BCIG Tournament

Meredith Brown of East Sac drove Mary Bontrager in the bottom of the 7th as East Sac picked up a win over Carroll in the 1st round of the OA-BCIG Tournament. Bontrager singled to start the inning and was able to move to 3rd with 2 outs. Brown came up and drove a ball down the 3rd base line to score the game winner. Carroll had a chance to take the lead in the top 7th when they loaded the bases with 2 outs but East Sac got out of trouble setting up the bottom half. The Raiders rallied in the 6th to tie the game. Meredith Brown was hit-by-a-pitch, Kami Ross moved her to 2nd on a ground out, Jen Aschinger was also hit-by-a-pitch and both runners scored on a double by Abby Schueneman.
Mary Bontrager led East Sac with 4 hits and scored twice. Meredith Brown added a pair of hits, RBI and scored a run and Abby Schueneman doubled and drove in two. Shelby Gerry picked up the win.
Ava Gross had a pair of hits for Carroll, Chloe Gallegos doubled. Gross, Gallegos and Camryn Schable all drove in runs for Carroll in the loss.
Both Teams will play on Saturday against opponents that hadn’t been determined at press time.

Kyndal Hilgenberg helped Kuemper rally late to win against the host team in tournament play on Friday. The Knights scored 3 times in the 5th and won it with a run in the 7th. Hilgenberg drove in two runs in the 5th inning and then drove in the game winner in the bottom 7th with 2 outs after time length had expired. OA-BCIG opened things up early with a pair of runs in the 1st inning and one in the 2nd inning to go up 3-0. Kuemper answered with a run in the 3rd. The Falcons responded though with a run in the 4th to lead 4-1.
Kyndal Hilgenberg and Kenadee Loew led the Knights with 2 hits each. Hilgenberg had a team high 3 RBI. Kenzie Schon had a home run and Jordan Schwabe and Kenadee Loew each doubled. Chloe Venteicher got the start, going 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 9 hits. Kamryn Venner picked up the win pitching the 7th inning and striking out 3 batters.
The win improves Kuemper to 7-4 overall. They will play again on Saturday against Newell Fonda.

Coon Rapids Bayard at Glidden Ralston

Glidden Ralston grabbed a solid conference win as they defeated Coon Rapids Bayard Friday evening. Things started slowly for both teams, Coon Rapids Bayard struggled against Glidden Ralston’s Addy Boell in the circle through three innings as Glidden Ralston grabbed a run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to Vanessa Koehler scoring on a wild pitch. The Crusaders grabbed the lead for the first time in the top of the fifth inning when Shelbi Wiskus crushed a two RBI double to score Breely Clayburg and Bridget Shirboun. Boell in the first three innings didn’t allow a single hit and had one walk.
The Wildcat’s response to the lead change was a lead change of their own, scoring four runners in the bottom of the fifth. Kim Daily scored Tiela Janssen off an RBI double, Daily scored off Morgan Koehler’s RBI single, and Elizabeth Lloyd brought Gretchen Wallace and Koehler home on another 2 RBI double, taking the lead 5-2. Coon Rapids Bayard had the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, but Glidden Ralston got a double play and got Clayburg out at first to end the half inning.
Another big moment for Glidden Ralston came from Vanessa Koehler who got home run number two on the season to score Ashlynn Tigges to put Glidden Ralston up 7-2. Coon Rapids Bayard started the top of the seventh with hits by Cassidy Baker, Lacie Davis, and Emma Hart loading the bases once again. Despite another bases loaded situation, a 6-3 play ended the inning and gave Glidden Ralston their second win of the season at 7-2.
Glidden Ralston improves to 2-9 on the season and 2-6 in Rolling Valley Conference play as Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 5-6 on the season and 4-4 in conference play. Glidden Ralston was scheduled to be the SE Valley Tournament on Saturday but it was cancelled. They will head to Ar-We-Va on Wednesday. Coon Rapids Bayard continues their season with a home game against Ar-We-Va on Monday.

West Harrison At Ar-We-Va

West Harrison had to forfeit the game on Friday in Vail after having only eight players eligible to play. Under State rules indicate that at least 1 pitch has to be played with 9 players on the field. Ar-We-Va is credited with a 2-0 win.
The win improves Ar-We-Va to 4-4 overall and in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Rockets will travel to Coon Rapids Bayard on Monday.

Audubon snuck a win out on Friday scoring twice in the bottom 6th inning. Sydney Beymer started the rally with a single and scored the tying run on a double by Katelyn Nielsen. Nielsen scored the lead run on a single to center field by Kali Irlmeier. Riverside loaded the bases in the 7th on a pair of infield singles and an error. Alexis Obermeier replaced Kali Irlmeier in the circle during the Riverside rally and was able to get out of a bases loaded and 2 out situation with a ground out to the pitcher. Riverside took a 1-0 lead in the top 6th as the Wheeler defense committed 3 errors in the inning.
The Wheelers got a great start from Kali Irlmeier who went 6 1/3 innings allowing no earned runs on 4 hits. Audubon finished with 7 hits and were led by Katleyn Nielsen and Jordan Porsch who both had two hits. Nielsen and Irlmeier added RBI, scoring Sydney Beymer and Katelyn Nielsen. Beymer, Irlmeier and Johanna Sauers each had a hit.
The win improves the Wheelers to 6-4 overall and 5-4 in the Western Iowa Conference. They travel to Treynor on Monday.

South Central Calhoun loaded the bases in the bottom 7th down by 1 and got a shot off the bat of Emma Geno but it was right at the shortstop who made the catch and the Titans suffer a disappointing loss after playing a very good game. Kortney Riley reached on an error, Emma Anderson walked and Sally Musselman was intentionally walked to load the bases with 2 outs in the 7th. The game was a pitching battle until late with Emmetsburg scoring in the 1st inning but nobody scored again until the Titans scored 4 times in the 4th inning. Emmetsburg chipped away with a run in the 5th and then took the lead with a 3-run 6th inning.
Sally Musselman and Emma Geno each had two hits to led the Titans. They finished with 7 hits as a team with Kylee Schleisman, Brielle Korleski and Addisyn Korleski all having a hit. Musselman pitched a complete game striking out 5 in the loss.
The loss drops South Central Calhoun to 6-5. The Titans head to Pocahontas Area on Wednesday.
