With the recent retirement of Carroll Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief, Bob Shields, the Carroll City Council will be asked on Monday to approve adjustments for the department. The recommendation is to have Dan Hannasch take over the role of Assistant Chief as a Captain with Lt. Jeff Cullen being promoted to Captain, Brad Warnke from Training Officer to Lieutenant and Brady Vanderberg from Firefighter to Training Officer. The board will also consider acceptance of the substantial completion of the Graham Park Pickleball Court Complex and review a lease agreement with the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) for hosting of the 2021 1A and 2A baseball tournament. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says they will also hold a couple of public hearings. The first for street restoration plans, but this is a little different than the normal street projects.
This also includes the previously discussed sidewalk along Timberline Road and Main Street. The second public hearing is for parking lot improvements at Northeast Park for access to Kellan’s Kingdom all-inclusive playground and the Miracle Field complex. They will discuss the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost of $378,789 and an alternate for parking expansion of $36,224. In February, the council held a work session with Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. reviewing a sanitary sewer rate study.
If direction to move forward is given, rate options will be brought to a future meeting. There is also a proposal to expand on the current urban revitalization area that would provide tax abatement opportunities for more property owners.
Monday evening’s meeting will convene at 5:15 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers and there is currently a maximum limit of eight additional public members or presenters for in-person attendance. The full agenda, packet of materials and details on how to join by phone or computer or to watch live on local access cable can be found below.
