With warmer weather comes the appearance of more and more motorized golf carts on the streets of communities with ordinances allowing their use. The Sac City Police Department says that residents are allowed to operate these on their thoroughfares, but they are reminding drivers and passengers of the rules they must follow. There must be a valid cart permit from the City of Sac City and the carts can only be operated on streets with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour or lower. Use is limited to daylight hours, from sunrise to sunset and drivers must obey all Code of Iowa motor vehicle laws. The cart must be outfitted with a slow-moving vehicle (SMV) sign and a flag for visibility purposes. All passengers are to be six years of age or older.
