The City of Glidden is expanding its recreational offerings for residents with a new pickleball court that is expected to be ready for players by the end of the summer. Administrator, Brooke Peterson, says the idea originated during conversations with community leaders about potential uses for an already poured concrete pad in the park near the Glidden Aquatic Center.
Pickleball’s popularity has been rapidly growing since its creation in 1965, and it is accessible to a wide variety of players. The city does not have a firm cost estimate for the court as of yet, but Peterson says they are hoping to keep expenses down if possible.
She adds they are also reviewing potential grant opportunities to further reduce costs. According to Peterson, this pickleball court is just their latest effort to encourage Glidden residents to get out and be active.
The Glidden Parks and Recreation Department recently completed substantial improvements to the parking lots and sidewalks near the aquatic center and replaced the playground equipment near the community’s ballfield. City officials are also actively pursuing grants from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to install a fishing pond at Northland Park.
