Lewis Central at Kuemper
Kuemper grabbed a 2-0 sweep of Lewis Central in their double header match Tuesday evening. In game one, both teams traded the lead and tied a few times. Lewis Central wasted no time getting on the board with their lead off hitter getting a triple and scoring on the next hit. While Kuemper didn’t score in the bottom of the first, they left two runners on base for a chance to take the lead. Melinda Schaefer grabbed an RBI single to score Kenadee Loew and even reached base off a Lewis Central error. Kyndal Hilgenberg had the big play in the second with a two RBI single to give Kuemper the 3-1 lead.
Lewis Central responded with three runs of their own off a two run homerun and another runner scored, taking a 4-3 lead. Kuemper stayed focused and got back the lead at 6-4 in the bottom of the third thanks again to Hilgenberg who got another 2 RBI single and Schon reaching home off a wild pitch. Lewis Central swung the momentum back with one run in the top of the fourth off costly errors at third and home, and two more in the top of the fifth thanks to a two RBI double. Kuemper, down 6-7, brought Kamryn Venner to the mound, playing relief for Chloe Venteicher who, in four and one third innings pitched, recorded four strikeouts off nine hits, five earned runs, and one home run.
Venner gave her teammates a reason to get excited as she faced eight batters, didn’t allow a hit, and recorded five strikeouts. After two up and down innings for Lewis Central, Kuemper had to get the lead back down 7-6. Bottom of the seventh, Brianna Lux ledoff and crushed a double, and later scored off a Kenzie Schon RBI double, tying the game at 7-7. Alexis Diercksen became a pinch runner for Schon, which made the difference. Venner hit a sac fly to left field to allow Diercksen to score the walk off run and give Kuemper the 8-7 victory in game one.
Game two was just as close as Kuemper and Lewis Central were brought into extra innings. Lewis Central grabbed the lead in the top of the second with three runs. Kuemper started to chip away at the Lewis Central lead with a run in the bottom of the third, fourth, and fifth, while Lewis Central added another run in the top of the fifth. Leading 4-3, Lewis Central extended their lead further with two more runs in the top of the seventh to lead 6-3. Kuemper took opportunity after opportunity and were able to eventually tie up the game at 6-6 and bring the contest into extra innings.
In the eighth defensively, Kuemper grabbed an infield pop fly for out one, a fly out to right for out two, and finished the half inning by snatching another pop fly for out three. In their at bats, Kaci Peter led off with a first pitch single to center and she stole second. Melinda Schaefer sac bunted to advance Peter to third. Ultimately, Peter started and ended the inning when she scored off a wild pitch from Lewis Central, giving Kuemper the game two win at 7-6 in eight innings and the 2-0 game sweep.
Kuemper improves to 10-7 on the season and 3-3 in Hawkeye Ten Conference play as Lewis Central falls to 9-9 overall and 5-5 in Hawkeye Ten Conference play. Kuemper will take Wednesday, June 16th off, and are back on the field when they travel to take on Harlan on Thursday, June 17th.

Carroll at Storm Lake

Carroll grabbed win number 10 as they cruised past Storm Lake Tuesday evening. Carroll got out to a quick start as they scored three runners, taking a 3-0 lead. Camryn Schable was on the hill for Carroll and she performed well and had great reinforcements. She allowed no earned runs, five hits, and recorded five strikeouts and grabbed a win. Carroll pushed forward with more success in the top of the second with two runners scored, and two more in the top of the fourth.
Chloe Gallegos had a big night in her at bats, going 3-3, hitting a triple, and being credited with three RBI. Josie Ayala performed just as well, going 2-4, hitting a double, a triple, recorded an RBI, and scored two runs along with a stolen base. Despite not adding a run in the last three innings, Carroll kept Storm Lake at bay and didn’t allow a runner to score. Carroll picks up the 7-0 win on the road.
Carroll improves to 10-12 overall on the season as Storm Lake falls to 4-10. Carroll takes the field once again as they entertain Gilbert on Wednesday, June 16th.

East Sac at MVAO-COU

East Sac had to battle in the bottom of the seventh, but they came out victorious against MVAO-COU Tuesday evening. The Raiders and Rams traded runs in the first two innings ultimately at a standstill at 1-1. Kami Ross got home off an error on MVAO-COU’s shortstop. East Sac grabbed the lead at 3-2 thanks to Bree Boeckman getting a two run homerun, but the Rams responded well with three runs in the bottom of the third to take the 4-3 lead.
The Raiders took an inning off from scoring, but picked up the pace in the top of the fifth. Mary Bontrager grabbed an RBI single, and soon after scored off a wild pitch while Meredith Brown got an RBI off the sac fly out, giving East Sac a 6-4 lead after five innings. MVAO-COU tied up the game at 6-6 as they got two runners home off one hit and one error. Brown struck again in the top of the seventh with an RBI single. Bontrager scored soon after off another throwing error by MVAO-COU, giving East Sac the 8-6 lead. East Sac in the bottom of the seventh were in a bit of trouble when MVAO-COU scored a runner off an RBI double, making it 8-7 East Sac. With two outs and bases loaded, Madi Quirk nabbed a diving stop and leaped up to tag third base and get the third out to win it for East Sac 8-7.
East Sac improves to 7-5 overall on the season and 3-3 in Twin Lake Conference play as MVAO-COU falls to 8-14 on the season. East Sac is in action next when they entertain Southeast Valley on Wednesday, June 16th.

Underwood at Audubon

Audubon 0
Audubon and Underwood were locked in a battle of pitchers in their game Tuesday evening. Both teams escaped the first inning scoreless, but in the top of the second, Underwood got on the board. The Eagles took advantage of Audubon at home as they’d steal home and get up 1-0. Despite that one run, the pitching duo of Alexis Obermeier and Kali Irlmeier kept Underwood runners at bay. Obermeier in five innings pitched allowed three hits and a run while striking out four batters. Irlmeier in two innings pitched allowed one hit off three strikeouts.
Underwood’s pitchers were able to strikeout nine Audubon batters while only allowing two hits by Jordan Porsch and Addie Hocker. That one run stood as the lone run for both teams as Underwood and Audubon went scoreless from the bottom of the second until the eventual end of the game where Underwood won 1-0.
Audubon falls to 7-6 on the season, 6-6 in Western Iowa Conference play as Underwood improves to 13-1 overall and 9-1 in WIC play. Audubon will take Wednesday, June 16th off and return to action when they travel to take on Coon Rapids Bayard on Thursday, June 17th.

Missouri Valley at IKM-Manning

IKM-Manning went the full seven innings in a tough loss against Missouri Valley Tuesday evening. IKM-Manning finished the first innings with a 6-4 lead. The biggest success for the Wolves early in the game was their ability to run the bases and get runners home. Six different players for IKM-Manning found their way home, with Zoey Melton, Brooke Booth, and Taylor Beckendorf all scoring two runs each.
Missouri Valley took the lead in the top of the second with a big seven run innings, leading 11-6. IKM-Manning cut off a large chunk of the Missouri Valley lead by getting three more runs scored in the bottom of the second to cut it down to 11-9. Missouri Valley started to shut down IKM-Manning, keeping them scoreless past those two successful innings. The Lady Reds continued to add on runs to their score, adding two in the third, two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and four more in the seventh, to ultimately win 20-9.
IKM-Manning is in action next when they travel to take on Riverside on Thursday, June 17th.
