Softball Results for June 16th, 2021
Gilbert at Carroll
The Gilbert and Carroll game was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning due to severe weather coming through the Carroll area and will be continued at a date to be determined. Prior to the suspension of the game, it was a tight game between Carroll and Gilbert.
Gilbert started off the game with a 5-0 lead after two innings of play. Carroll brought the game back into their corner as they rattled off five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Three of those five runs were scored off errors caused by Gilbert. Chloe Gallegos rocketed off an RBI double, Ava Gross scored off a wild pitch, and Makalei Kofron grabbed an RBI as she reached base off an error. Alyssa Brant took the mound and had a great inning as she went 1-2-3 in the top of the third. Carroll grabbed the lead at 6-5 in the bottom of the third as Averi Burke scored off another wild pitch from Gilbert.
The last inning played was the top of the fifth where Gilbert regained the lead by getting three singles to start it off, and those three lead off hitters later scored. As the game stands, Gilbert holds the 8-6 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning. A date will be determined when the ball game will be finished. Watch out for that makeup date on our website.
Glidden Ralston at Ar-We-Va

Ar-We-Va and Glidden Ralston clashed in a Rolling Valley Conference matchup with the Rockets coming out victorious Wednesday. The Wildcats started off the matchup with their at bats, but were unable to get a runner home. Ar-We-Va started out strong with three runs in the bottom of the first and added another one in the bottom of the second to lead 4-0. Glidden Ralston saw difficulties against Jadeyn Smith, who allowed four hits and recorded four strikeouts. Both teams didn’t add any runs in the third inning, but the Rockets saw more scoring success in the bottom of the fourth with another three runs to lead 7-0.
Hannah Kraus for Ar-We-Va had a good night of success, going 3-4, hitting a triple, recording an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Glidden Ralston’s Vanessa Koehler, Tiela Janssen, Kimberly Daily, and Ashlyn Tigges all grabbed base hit for the Wildcats while Koehler ran the bases well and got a stolen base. Ar-We-Va closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth with three more scored runners to end the game with a score of 10-0 after five innings of play.
Glidden Ralston closed out the week with a home game against Boyer Valley on Friday, June 18th. Ar-We-Va will play a non-conference game against River Valley on Thursday, June 17th.

Coon Rapids Bayard at Boyer Valley

Coon Rapids Bayard attempted a comeback late, but eventually fell to conference foe Boyer Valley Wednesday night. The Crusaders kept the game close through most of the contest, allowing Boyer Valley to get up 3-0 after three innings without scoring. Coon Rapids Bayard was able to break through and cut down the Boyer Valley lead to 3-1 with a runner scored. Miranda Garcia gave the Crusaders help as she went 2-4, recorded two RBI, and scored a run herself.
Boyer Valley added a run in the bottom of the fifth, and Coon Rapids Bayard added one too in the top of the sixth. Boyer Valley’s big inning came in the bottom of the sixth when they went off and scored seven runs to take a 11-2 lead. In the top of the seventh, the Crusaders attempted a late game comeback as Emma Hart and Kadey Olson made their way home to give the Crusaders another three runs and cut down the Boyer Valley lead to 11-5. But, it was too late as Boyer Valley closed out the game and defeated Coon Rapids Bayard by a final score of 11-5.
Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 5-8 on the season and 4-6 in Rolling Valley Conference play. Boyer Valley improves to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Crusaders continue their busy week as they welcome Audubon for a non-conference game on Thursday, June 17th.

South Central Calhoun has been starting slowly on offense lately and the trend continued on Wednesday. They tried to rally late but the rally came up just short. The Titans scored 3 of their runs in the 6th inning and added a run in the 7th. The defense was solid early after falling down in the first couple innings; recently they held Pocahontas scoreless until the 3rd when the Indians scored 3 times. Pocahontas Area added 3 more runs in the 5th. The Indians only had 8 hits while the Titans finished with 6 hits.
Emma Geno led the Titan attack with a pair of hits and she scored once. Addisyn Korleski tripled and Emma Anderson, Sally Musselman and Ashley Hanks all had base hits. Sally Musselman took the loss, allowing 8 hits and 6-runs with 3 strikeouts.
The Titans dropped their 3rd straight and fell to 6-7 on the season and 3-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They host OA-BCIG on Thursday.

East Sac rallied from down 3-0 after the 1st inning and got a clutch double from Meredith Brown who later scored on a throwing error as they held on to beat SE Valley. The Jaguars had tied the game at 4 in the top of the 5th when Brown doubled and eventually scored the game winner. Shelby Gerry helped to close the door on the Jaguar bats in the 6th and 7th.
SE Valley scored three times in the 1st inning but East Sac answered with 3-runs in the 2nd inning. Maty Quirk and Mary Bontrager both had an RBI in the 2nd inning as East Sac gained the momentum. The Raiders took their first lead in the 3rd when Aleisha Thayer drove in Meredith Brown. They led 4-3 until the 5th inning.
Meredith Brown, Maci Gustavson and Aleisha Thayer each had 2 hits, Thayer had an RBI, Brown doubled and scored twice. Maty Quirk and Mary Bontrager both had an RBI.
The win improves them to 8-5 overall. East Sac will play at South Central Calhoun on Friday.
