The Carroll Fire Department was dispatched to the Grant Road railroad crossing at approximately 11:01 a.m. this morning in response to a reported train fire. According to Fire Chief, Greg Schreck, an electrical fire started outside the crew cabin in the lead engine of a westbound Union-Pacific locomotive. Schreck says the train crew brought the train to a stop at the Grant Road crossing to provide firefighters easy access. The engine was deemed inoperable due to the damage, but Union-Pacific was able to get the cars moving again after removing the inoperable engine and utilizing the train’s two remaining engines. Crossings between Grant Road and Bella Vista Drive were closed for less than two hours due to the stoppage.
