The Carroll Athletic Association is excited about a special event planned for historic Merchants Park, just in time for Father’s Day. Member, Jim Auen, says an amateur baseball league will be bringing three games into town.
President, Steve Wagner, says he founded the Expedition League in late 2014 and spent more than three years building and setting it up for long-term success. The first pitch was thrown in 2018 with eight teams. There are now 12 teams—three in North Dakota, three in South Dakota, three in Nebraska and then one team each in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.
The Sioux Falls Sunfish and the Grand Forks Wheat City Whiskey Jacks will be playing in Carroll, mainly because Wagner says he has always had a lot of interest in the community and Merchants Park.
Auen says there is a big demand for baseball throughout our region.
And Wagner says, this may be your chance to see talent that could move into the minor or major leagues.
Wagner adds the fun isn’t limited to just watching the game, they work to make it an interactive experience for all. The first pitch will be Saturday, June 19 at 7:05 p.m. and the Father’s Day doubleheader will begin at 4:05 p.m. Kids under six years old will get in free with all other seats $6 each.
