A Chariton man is being held in the Buena Vista County jail on a $52,300 bond for drug possession violations. The Storm Lake Police Department reports an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at approximately 9:40 a.m. Sunday and identified the driver, 29-year-old Michael Craig Schroeder, and found he was wanted on outstanding warrants for: two counts of second-offense possession of marijuana, aggravated misdemeanors; three counts of class B felony controlled substance violations; three class D felony drug tax stamp violations; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, serious misdemeanors. The Storm Lake K-9 was deployed and alerted to narcotics in the vehicle. During a subsequent search, officers located a quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Schroeder was then additionally charged with second-offense possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. As of Monday morning, Schroeder remained in custody. The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol assisted in the investigation.
