The History Boy Theatre Company of Jefferson put on an outdoor musical production last weekend that was a smash hit. That same play will be coming to Graham Park in Carroll this weekend. One of the cast members of “The Burnt Part Boys,” 16-year-old Madeline Parrott of Carroll, says the story is set in a West Virginia mining town in 1962.

Pete finds some dynamite his brother, Jake, is going to take to work in the mines and decides on a different course of action. He is going to blow up the burnt part, where so many died, so it can remain a sacred place forever. Parrott says she is actually playing the role of Pete’s male friend, Dusty Rivers.

The reality in this production, Parrott says, is that the majority of The Burnt Part Boys’ roles have not been cast in the traditional manner.

Spectators, Parrott says, will be led through the gamut of emotions.

Parrott says even though there was a little rain last weekend, there were large crowds and everything went very well. Gates at Graham Park for the Saturday and Sunday shows will open at 7 p.m. with the play starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased through the link included below. Parrott, who is a junior at Carroll High School, was a member of the ensemble in the History Boy Theatre Company’s “Young Frankenstein” production. This is her first major role, though she does participate in drama and speech, making it to History Day nationals this year.
