Kuemper extended their winning streak to three games as they picked up a win over St Albert Thursday night. The Knights started their night by keeping St Albert at bay by not allowing them to score, while the Knights went on to bring home three runs in the bottom of the first. Cal Wanniger had a big night for Kuepmer, going 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored. The Kuemper defense with Blake Pottabaum on the hill did well and kept St Albert scoreless in this contest. Pottebaum in seven innings allowed two hits and a walk while recording five strikeouts.
In innings two through five, the Knights had difficulties getting past the St Albert pitcher who threw 10 strikeouts against them. The Knights were able to get one more runner home with a solo run scored in the bottom of the sixth to take the 4-0 lead. With their strong defensive effort, Kuemper takes home their third consecutive win to stay atop in the Hawkeye Ten Conference.
Kuemper improves to 13-4 overall on the season and 11-3 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference, one game ahead of Lewis Central in the standings. Kuemper will host its tournament on Saturday, June 26th with their first game scheduled against Pocahontas Area at 10 AM.

Carroll at Carlisle

Carroll showed how tough their offense can be against Carlisle, but one high scoring inning allowed Carlisle to escape with the win Thursday night. In the top of the first, the Tigers got out to a 3-0 start with Slade Sibenaller getting the offense going. Sibenaller got an RBI double with Ryan Johnston following that up with a two RBI single. Carlisle got on the board in the bottom of the first with a solo run, cutting down the Carroll lead to 3-1. Both teams were unable to put up runs on the board in the second inning, but Carroll came back in the top of the third.
Sibenaller continued his strong at bats with an RBI single to give Carroll the 4-1 lead. Despite keeping the lead for three and a half innings and keeping Carlisle to one run, Carroll was unable to combat what happened in the bottom of the fourth. Carlisle took off running as they scored seven runs and took their first lead of the game at 8-4. The Tigers went scoreless in the top of the fifth and sixth, but had a chance to come back in the top of the seventh. Carroll had runners on second and third with one out, but could not find ways to get hits. Carlisle got outs two and three and with their one strong inning, were able to defeat Carroll 8-4, despite being out-hit 9-6.
Carroll falls to 10-10 on the season and 4-9 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll wraps up their busy week with another road game on Friday, June 25th against Webster City.

AHSTW at IKM-Manning

IKM-Manning continued to battle against AHSTW, but fell shy of a comeback Thursday night. The game started with a standstill where both teams didn’t score a runner. AHSTW got the scoring started with eight runs in the top of the second, taking the 8-0 lead. IKM-Manning also got their offense started with four runs of their own, to cut down the AHSTW lead to 8-4. Hayden McLaughlin had a big night as he was able to grab himself a homerun and go 3-4 in his at bats.
The AHSTW Vikings continued their scoring success in the top of the third with three more runs scored, taking the 11-4 lead. IKM-Manning were stopped in the bottom of the third, but so were the Vikings in the top of the fourth. The Wolves responded to the three runs AHSTW scored with three of their own, cutting the lead back down to four runs at 11-7. IKM-Manning Head Coach Jeremy Nielsen says he was proud of how his team fought and thought his pitching core kept their heads on despite the challenge from AHSTW.
The fifth and sixth innings passed without any team scoring a run, keeping the game at 11-7 in favor of AHSTW. The Vikings were able to get on the board one last time, in the top of the seventh with another run scored, taking the 12-7 lead. AHSTW wrapped up the game in the bottom of the seventh, keeping the IKM-Manning offense at bay and winning 12-7.
IKM-Manning returns from the weekend break to take part in the Western Iowa Conference Tournament, beginning on Monday June 28th.

Tri Center at Audubon

Audubon had some strong offensive innings, but were outmatched by Western Iowa Conference leader Tri-Center Thursday night.
Tri-Center got off to a quick start by getting three runners home and taking the early 3-0 lead. Audubon got their offense going in the bottom of the first by taking their first lead in the game with five runs scored to lead 5-3. Gavin Smith and Cooper NIelsen both went 2-3, got a double, and were credited with an RBI each. Tri-Center shot back with another high scoring inning, scoring six runs and taking back the lead at 9-5. After keeping Audubon scoreless in the bottom of the second, Tri-Center continued to go all out as they scored another six runs, taking a 15-5 lead.
Audubon Head Coach Matt Wilder says the Wheelers were able to outhit Tri-Center, but the Trojans were able to clear the ball farther than his team could, giving his pitchers a challenge to conquer. The Wheelers bounced back a bit as they kept Tri-Center scoreless in the top of the fourth and fifth while adding two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Ethan Klocke was able to clear a two RBI home run to keep his team close to Tri-Center with a score of 15-7. Tri-Center once again came back stronger in the top of the seventh, scoring seven runs and ending the game in the top of the seventh 22-7.
Audubon falls to 7-12 overall on the season and 6-10 in the Western Iowa Conference. They wrap up a busy week with a non-conference game on the road against Earlham on Friday, June 25th.
