Connie was born on September 21, 1929 to William and Helen (Brightwell) Leiting. She grew up with her three siblings in Arcadia, Iowa, attending St. John’s Catholic School and then graduating from Arcadia High School in 1947. Following high school, she studied to become a registered nurse at St. Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll, Iowa, graduating with her R.N. in 1955.  On August 31, 1955, Connie was united in marriage to the love of her life, Paul Nieland, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. Throughout their nearly-66 years together, they raised five children who fondly remember coming home from school to their mother’s wonderful cinnamon rolls and other homemade treats. In the early years of their marriage, Connie practiced nursing before stepping away to join Paul in operating their farm and raising livestock; Paul fed cattle while she assumed responsibility for
the hog buildings. Paul and Connie were true partners in every step of their life together; they worked hard and imparted upon their children and grandchildren the value of hard work. Connie was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. She loved her family, following college sports, enjoying summers at their lake home in Lake View, Iowa, and spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. Connie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Paul Nieland, and her children, Kathleen (Mike) Tasler of Gretna, Nebraska; Nancy Mueggenberg of Breda; Brian (Denise) Nieland of Breda; Ken (Shelly) Nieland of Ankeny, Iowa; and Karen (Kevin) Grundmeier of Carroll. She will also be dearly missed by her 12 grandchildren, Nathan (Natasha) Tasler, Jessica (Brian) Noble, Jenna (Dave) Whitaker, Andrew (Kayla Van Wie) Tasler, Brent Mueggenberg, Todd (Shaunna)  Mueggenberg, Aaron (Alyce) Nieland, Adam Nieland, Megan (Eric) Stein, Amber (David) McCoy, Tyler (Melissa) Grundmeier, and Kayla (Steve) Irlbeck, as well as 14 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Helen Leiting of Arcadia, Charlotte Carter of Alta, and Jolene Jensen of Anamosa, and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Helen Leiting, her two brothers Melvin (Marilyn) Leiting and Floyd Leiting, her sister Helen (Tom) Higgins, and her son-in-law, Mark Mueggenberg.
