Dan Dunn, 67 of Breda, died early Sunday morning, June 27, 2021, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2021, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Friedrichsen. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Special music will be by Kristie Tigges and Mary Dunn-Hayward. Lector for the Funeral Mass will be Lynne Dvorak. Gift Bearers will be Adelyn White, Kaitlyn Tigges, Tobey White, Miley Tigges, Cora Masching, and Jace Masching. Eucharistic Minister will be Shell Schreck. Casket Bearers will be Michael White, Chris Tigges, Brian “Smoke” Steinkamp, Tom Dunn, Bill Dunn, and John Dunn. Burial will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be no additional visitation on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass. Dan was born on July 25, 1953, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa the son of Joseph and Marguerite (Downey) Dunn. He grew up in Crawford County and attended grade school in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1971. Dan married Deborah Nieland on August 11, 1973.
He worked at Pepsi Cola, Pudenz Trucking, Shared Services – CT Scan driver and later started his own trucking business, Dan Dunn Trucking until he retired.
Dan was born, raised, and died in Crawford County. He loved the people and the countryside. From the beginning, he was tough, hard-working, and fearless, with a great outlook on life.
Reds was a happy place for Dan. It is the “Cheers” of Breda where everybody knows your name.
If you knew Dan, you knew his horses. If there were not horses in heaven, there are now.
Dan is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Masching of Carroll, Amy White and her husband Michael of Queen Creek, AZ, Beth Tigges and her husband Chris of Carroll; six grandchildren, Adelynn White, Kaitlyn Tigges, Tobey White, Miley Tigges, Cora and Jace Masching; five brothers and sisters, Pat (Steve) Kunz of Johnston, IA, Tom (Joan) Dunn of Sheldon, IA, John (Ruth) Dunn of Omaha, NE, Bill Dunn of Des Moines, IA, Mary (Jim) Hayward of Johnston, IA and Kathy (Mark) Kubovich of Johnson, IA; and many extended family members, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marguerite, and brother Mike Dunn.
