Traffic Stop Leads To Fort Dodge Man’s Arrest For Felony Drug Possession

A minor traffic violation Friday in Storm Lake led to several charges against a Fort Dodge man, including felony drug charges. According to the Storm Lake Police Department, an officer conducted a traffic stop at approximately 1:18 a.m. on a vehicle near the intersection of Highways 7 and 71. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Angel Montanez Santana, was found to have a barred license in Iowa and was taken into custody. Authorities located a small amount of marijuana on his person, and the department’s K9 unit was called to assist. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located during a subsequent search. Santana was booked for two counts of third-offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. He was held on a $12,300 bond. A passenger in the car, 34-year-old Coty Alan Sumrall, also of Fort Dodge, was arrested on charges of second-offense possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $2,300 bond.
